Conference Mission

The St. John’s Latino Leadership Conference aims to educate and promote Latino leadership and education to the St. John’s Community and other higher institutions in the Tri-State and Northeast Regions. Our goal is to reach out to all Latinos and Non-Latinos to promote awareness of student empowerment and change student visions of their futures as nothing but success. This Conference is different to other Latino Student Conferences in that its workshops discuss current specific issues about immigration, positive/negative Latino role models, and leadership amongst students. It will help address and put into action how our Latino students can get involved both on and off campus, how to create your own community organization, how to overcome struggles within your field of study, and help initiate a positive youth movement throughout New York City.

LASO History

In 2006 The Organizations of HCS (Hispanic Cultural Society) and OLAS (Organization of Latin American Students) combined to Become LASO (Latino American Student Organization).  A Top Ten organization in existence at St John’s University in New York City, LASO Mission is To promote Latino awareness and help provide a deeper insight into the cultures of different Latino countries. Finally a sense of pride and unity among the members of the Latino community by providing cultural, social, and community service activities.
